Kitten care

In this article, you will learn the features of caring for kittens.

All cats, like people, need hygiene procedures. Kitten grooming includes cleaning eyes, ears, nose, brushing, trimming claws

and bathing. For care, you should use only special tools and tools that are sold in a pet store. In addition, you need to take care of timely vaccinations to protect your pet from dangerous diseases.

Hair care

Little kittens require almost no grooming. For combing, we use flat brushes with long teeth with an antistatic effect and slicker brushes without balls at the end. Ragdolls almost never get tangled, so we rarely scratch them (usually when I wash kittens), but perhaps if you have a kitten of a different breed, you will have to scratch it more often. When tangles appear, you can use nail scissors, but you need to cut vertically in the direction of hair growth.

Claws care

For cutting claws, you should buy a special claw cutter. If you use ordinary nail scissors, there is a chance of damaging the structure of the claw. You can start trimming your claws only from 5 months, when the nails are already formed. Before the procedure, it is necessary to treat the claw cutter with a disinfectant. You need to cut off only the transparent part of the claw, in which there are no blood vessels, so as not to hurt the kitten. To make it more convenient to cut, the kitten can be wrapped in a towel.

In addition, for the kitten you need to buy a scratching post. We use flat cardboard. You can also make your own scratching post by wrapping jute rope around the legs of tables and chairs.

Ear, eye and nose care

Eyes, ears and nose should be examined daily. If you notice dirt in the eye, gently wipe it with a cotton swab moistened with warm water. For minor problems with the eyes, after washing, drip a special eye product. We use floxal or torbex. If you notice cloudy fluid and pus in your eyes, contact your veterinarian immediately to find out the cause of the inflammation.

Use cotton swabs moistened with water to clean your ears. Cleaning must be done very carefully so as not to damage the inner surface of the ear.

If the nose seems to be slightly clogged during washing, then you can use irs-19 or nosdrin to treat the kitten.

Bathing

Bathing kittens should be no more than once a month, over time, these periods may become even longer. Cats are very clean creatures, so they can be washed as they get dirty. For bathing kittens, you should use a special hypoallergenic shampoo with a conditioner effect. It cleans the coat, makes it shiny and protects against the appearance of parasites. Over time, kitten shampoo should be replaced with shampoo for adult cats.

Vaccination

Despite the fact that our kittens already have a number of vaccinations indicated in the veterinary passport, they need to be vaccinated. Some vaccinations need to be done at regular intervals. All vaccinations are done only when the kitten is healthy, otherwise it can cause unpleasant complications for your pet.
